Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Overly Stinson, age 94, of Granville died Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Kendal at Granville. Dottie was born on March 29, 1921 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Leslie Dane and Ruth (VonSchriltz) Overly. She graduated from Columbus West High School and Columbus Business College and married the love of her life, Robert R. Stinson on October 18, 1941. They moved to Granville in 1953 where Dottie was a charter member of LMH Twig 6, a member of the Granville Garden Club, and served as an elder of The First Presbyterian Church of Granville. She was well known for her quilting, needlework, canning of Bob’s huge garden, great cooking and a lot of spunk.
Dottie was a loving mother of two daughters, Susan Stinson (M.L. “Pete”) Peters of Georgetown, TX and Janet Stinson (Eric) Jones of Scottsdale, AZ. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Amy (partner, Deb Merritt) Jones of Columbus and Emily (Patrick) McAvoy of Phoenix, AZ; and her great grandchildren, Logan and Rylee McAvoy.
In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert Stinson; and her brother, Robert Overly.
Dorothy was proud to be called a pioneer resident at Kendal at Granville where she lived until her death. The family wishes to thank Sandy Bowers of HomeInstead, the staff of Kendal, and the staff of Hospice of Central Ohio for the hours of care and love given to Dottie during her final years.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Kendal of Granville on April 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until the time of the service.
