William Hendey Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for William (Bill) C. Hendey, 101, of Granville, at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 15, 2021 at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant. Private interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with military honors rendered by the Licking County Veteran Alliance.

A Navy veteran of World War II, Bill served as a Radioman in the Philippines. He passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio, in Newark. He was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey to the late William C. and Jenny Hendey.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Bill prior to retirement worked as a packaging designer. He was a devoted and supportive husband, father, and friend. He and Margery were devoted to each other and enjoyed many years of love and companionship. A member of St. Edwards Church he volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and other causes. Bill enjoyed tennis and played well into his eighties with a local tennis group.  Bill also had a love for woodworking and used his considerable talents to make furniture and toys for his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Margery; sons and daughters-in-law, Peter G. and Carolyn, William S. and Anne, Gerard L., Paul C., and Daniel F. and Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters; Pearl Hendey and Ruth Aston.
