Phyllis Weaver Obituary

A memorial service celebrating the life of Phyllis J. Weaver, 90, of Heath, formerly of Granville, will be held at 11:00 A.M. March 11, 2023 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, in Granville with Rev. Casey Wilson and Rev. Bob Long as celebrants.

Phyllis passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Chapel Grove in Heath.  She was born in Tiffin, OH to the late Clarence and Inez Henricks.

A retired assistant Athletic Director for Granville Schools, Phyllis was a force to be reckoned with.  She was feisty, tenacious, smart-witted and a fighter.  During her career at Granville Schools, she was the assistant coach to the girls’ basketball and high school track teams, later to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.  Phyllis also enjoyed teaching English as a Second Language at C-Tech.

Phyllis was a leader, take-charge person who was totally invested in her community.  She founded Meals on Wheels at Centenary United Methodist Church, was a member of Vintage Voices, and was a Historian for the church for many years.  She was a life-long facilitator in Girl Scouts designated as a Lead Facilitator in 2018, past Council President, and Master Trainer.  Phyllis also enjoyed volunteering at the Davis-Shai House and TWIG 6 Thrift Shop.

Most importantly, aside from her faith and family, Phyllis loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and being a mother to all who needed one.  Her door was always open.  She will be remembered for her gift of storytelling, finding humor in everything.

Surviving are her children, Teri (Sam) Varney, Todd (Pam) Weaver, and Jodi (Daniel) Lavely; grandchildren, Kaylynn, Mallary (Stephen), Tyler (Kasey), William (Mollie), Cameron, and Madison; great grandchild, Lauralyn Grace; brother, Ted (Peg) Hendricks; niece, Lisa (Michael) Haeflein; nephew, David (Karen) Hendricks; “adopted” Danish exchange student, Michael (Randi) Larsen; and “adopted” Dutch exchange student, Edith (Jacqueline) Hagedoorn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Weaver, who died in 1996; and son, Jay Weaver, who died in 2017.

The family will receive friends this Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 1-3 and 5-7 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., in Granville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Granville Recreation District, P.O. Box 483, Granville, OH 43023-0483 .
