Joseph Halla Obituary

Joseph W. Halla, age 92, of Granville (formerly of Bexley) passed away April 24, 2020 at Sunrise of Gahanna.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late William J. and Gertrude Halla. He was a WWII Army veteran and retired from AT&T where he worked in labor relations. In addition, Joe owned and operated All Ohio Canoe.

A man of faith, Joe was a member of The Church of St. Edward the Confessor and former member of St. Catharine Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was also active with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Joe enjoyed competitive bike riding, golfing, traveling, and walking the beaches at Hilton Head. He will lovingly be remembered as a people person, family man, and great story teller, especially with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Joan; children and their spouses, Benjamin and Beth Halla, Christopher and Joyce Halla, Margaret and James Tighe, Katherine and Jim Joy, Elizabeth and John Kirby, Jennifer and Rick Quade, Jacqueline and Jim Sharpe, and Stephanie and Greg Thompson; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his grandson, Jake Thompson; brother, William Halla; and sister, Ruth Doyle.

A private graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pataskala with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville, OH 43023.
