Jon Scott Laing

Jon Scott Laing, 84 of Michigan, Florida and Ohio, passed way Monday, September 25, 2023, with his loving wife by his side.  He was born June 25, 1939, in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late William and Muriel (Johnson) Laing. 

Jon was a 1957 graduate of Coldwater High School and 1961 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He attended every high school class reunion, kept in touch with many of his classmates and remained lifelong friends. 

He went to work for Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan for 30 years.  Jon was an avid boater who started boating on Lake Michigan.  He has piloted 8 boats and went down the Mississippi River, around Florida and up the East Coast.  He also piloted through the inner coastal waterway from Puget Sound to Alaska.  With his love for the water, he built two lake homes in northern Michigan. 

Jon met his wife of 64 years at Coldwater High School and they were married in 1959.   Judy (Short) Laing survives him along with children, Tracee (Paul Hammond) Laing, Jon Scott (Sue) Laing II, Kim (Hanh) Lieu; grandchildren, Lauren Karaffa, Alex Karaffa, Kelsey Laing, Story Laing, Michael Lieu, Jacob Scott Lieu; great granddaughter, Autumn Karaffa-Sartin; nephew, Todd Short and niece, Robyn Morris.

A celebration of life will be held over the Thanksgiving holiday with immediate family.
