David Meurer Obituary

David (Tommy) Thomas Meurer, 84, died peacefully surrounded by his family October 23, 2022.

David was born on February 14, 1938 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Edward Charles Meurer and Elizabeth (Walsh) Meurer.  He attended Saint Peter’s University and enjoyed a long career in various capacities with Schindler Elevator Corporation, working and living in first Bloomington, Indiana then Toledo, Ohio and finally in Washington DC before retiring to Granville, Ohio.  He was also a very proud member of the Army National Guard, serving for 22 years before retiring with the rank of Sergeant Major.

As he often made a point of saying, he was blessed with a close and loving family.  Starting with his wife of 57 years, Maria (Notaroberto) Meurer; sons, Edward, Matthew, Michael and Christopher Meurer.  Daughters in law Gynna (Hernandez) Meurer and Erica (Wathen) Meurer; grandchildren David and Alexander Meurer; Nicholas Meurer along with Cade, Cash and Crew Wathen.    Surviving are his two beloved sisters Barbara (Meurer) Rebori and Joyce (Meurer) Hanley.

You could count on a quick “yes” from him whenever asked to lend a hand, go to dinner or watch a ball game.  He was a very humble, hardworking guy that was simply hard not to like.  His interests were wide ranging and loved to read but he especially treasured the time he had with his grandsons.  The positive influence he has had on them and others in his life is what will always survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, Ohio with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. at the church prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers of other offerings, memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org).
