David W. Horning

A memorial service celebrating the life of David W. Horning, 71, of Granville, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville with Rev. Kim Keethler Ball as celebrant.

A genuine friend to many, David passed away August 19, 2022 at his home on Buckeye Lake after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to the late Paul and Margaret Horning.

A graduate of Denison University, Dave studied geology and was a life-long learner. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was the President of their Alumni Board at Denison University for nearly fifty years. He enjoyed the sciences and taught general science for ten years at Lakewood Schools and taught programming at COTC. If he didn’t know the answer, he would find it. He left teaching to pursue a new career at Nationwide Insurance as a computer programmer. No subject was too complex. He loved sharing his knowledge with those around him whether it was coding, electric cars, solar energy or green energy options.

An honest and hardworking individual, Dave enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, and anything sci-fi. He had a passion for renovating homes and moved about Granville using his skills. He wasn’t just building homes, he was building memories with his partner and his friends. He was a proud life-time Democrat and will be remembered for his witty personality, strong opinions, and love of family.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Judy; and their children, Ben and Kim Horning.
