Colonel Eugene Agan, Jr. Obituary

Colonel Eugene (“Gene”) Agan, Jr., 90, of Granville, died on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his home.  He was born in Elmira, NY to Eugene and Marjorie (Manley) Agan.  The oldest of six children, he graduated from Elmira Catholic High School in 1947.   While working at the Elmira Bank and Trust Company, he was drafted into the Army in 1951.  He graduated and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant Field Artillery from Officers Candidate School, Fort Sill, OK, and is a member of its Field Artillery Hall of Fame.  He served in Korea from 1952 – 1953 as a Forward Observer and Platoon Leader.  Upon return from active duty, Gene continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves until 1990, retiring as a Colonel.

During this time, Gene worked in the Financial Services Industry as a Stock Broker, Mutual Fund Regional Representative and finally as Executive Vice-President at Calvin Bullock Ltd, New York.  Returned to Ohio in 1990, he continued his career with The Ohio Company as Director of Mutual Funds.  Retired in 1995.  In recent years, he joined Spurgeon Financial Services Newark, Ohio as a Financial Advisor, retiring in 2009.

An avid hiker, hunter, fisherman, photographer, and tennis player, he completed many of the Great Classic walks.  His favorite was “The Tour duMont Blanc” in 1989.

Surviving are his children, Eugene III, Christopher (Debbie), Michael (Tracy), Ruth (Chuck) Llewellyn, and Sheila Agan; grandchildren, Vanessa Agan, David (Andrea) Agan, Shelbi (Joey) Robbins, and Timothy (Jennifer) Llewellyn; great grandchildren, Isabella Agan, Samuel Agan, Gavin Robbins, and Peyton Llewellyn; sisters, Susan Savino (Elmira, NY), and Ann Marie Wagner (Bradenton, FL); sisters-in-law, Patricia Mailey (Horseheads, NY) and Else Tabolt (Manchester, NJ); and his cat, Jade.

Besides his loving parents, Colonel Agan is preceded in death by his loving bride of 66 years, Marian Tabolt Agan; and brothers, James, Thomas, and Patrick Agan.

A private funeral service will be held at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home in Granville.  Burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
