Betty Westall Obituary

Betty Westall began her life’s journey on June 19, 1924, in the hamlet of Glenford, Ohio. Shortly thereafter she was off and running among all the treasures life had to offer.  Early on she was a cheerleader, athlete, outstanding student (she graduated high school at sixteen.)  But Glenford wasn’t bold enough to contain her.  She married young and reared four children on a farm in northern Ohio, and then not satisfied with just a domestic life, carved out a series of careers.  Probation officer, physical education aide, voice coach, choir director, nanny, friend to thousands of Denison students whom she worked among in the dining hall and finally –you have to know her to relish this – Dodger Stadium beer pour girl.

She enjoyed an array of interests.  Travel was tantamount: she flew, floated, and hiked all earth’s continents save Antarctica.  Her home did not lack artifacts, antiques, or collectibles, but she was an avid shopper at yard sales and flea markets.  Her front yard testified to her interest in gardening; white picket fence cleverly guarded a bounty of flowers, and if a weed blossomed, it earned a space on the palette, too.

Music, especially opera, was the tapestry that richly endowed her everyday life.  She was a devoted participant in the arts, and together, these two interests enriched her inestimable Christian faith.

At the end of a remarkable journey, February 19, 2023, this beloved matriarch of five generations, lying shadowed by frightened family in an emergency room, whispered, “Let me go.”  We know where she went…her sweet Jesus took her hand and led her there.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Steve and Mary Westall, Brad and Ann Westall, Bruce and Lisa Westall, and Wendy Aiken; and grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother Charles Berwyn Ridenour.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 Mill St., Glenford, Ohio with Rev. Kevin Koske as celebrant. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Glenford.
