Ruth E. Burgoon

            A memorial service celebrating the life of Ruth E. Burgoon, 91, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant. A private graveside service will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in Johnstown.

            Ruth passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Generation Hospice in Newark. She was born in Granville to the late O. Frank and Mabel E. (Richards) James.

            A 1943 graduate of Union High School, Ruth was secretary of her class and on the Alumni Board. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church joining in 1938 and served others by her involvement in Deacon Parish Care and visiting church members. Family and grandchildren were Ruth’s top priorities. Whether it was time spent together at a meal, visiting the fair, or a lawn chair and a ballgame, Ruth was there. Ruth will be remembered as a loving and caring person with a big heart and a streak of orneriness.

            Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Dale Angus; grandchildren and their spouses, Gabe and Denna, Jeremy, Brian and Aubrey, Trisha, Ruth and Joe, Chris and Sasha, and Daniel and Jami; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Cujas; and brother-in-law, Vernon Camp.

            In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; son, Richard “Rick’ Burgoon; granddaughter, Brittany; great grandson, Colton; sisters, Mary Margaret Nash and Betty Camp; and brother, Richard James.

            The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 P.M. at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville where family remembrances will be shared at 8 P.M.. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
