Robert Munro Obituary

Robert B. Munro, 96, of Granville, passed away on February 2, 2018. He was born Dec. 30, 1921 in Tenafly, NJ, son of the late Bruce and Mildred Munro.  After high school, he attended Curtis Wright Technical School and Columbia University and was employed as an aircraft engineer at Grumman Corp. on Long Island, NY.  Two of his favorite projects were the Apollo LEM landing module for the first manned lunar landing in 1969 and the F-14 Tomcat fighter jet.

After 46 years with Grumman, he and his beloved wife of 63 years, the late Joyce A. Munro, moved to Granville to be near their family.  Bob enjoyed photography, woodworking and model making. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Granville and previously served as deacon and elder at the Setauket Presbyterian Church on Long Island, NY. He was also a member of the IPMS model club of Columbus, OH.

Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He is survived by his children, R. Bruce Korteling, Susan (Ron) Davis, and Jan (David) Hill; grandchildren, Janet (Marcus) Diddle, Jonathan (Amanda) Davis, and Benjamin Davis; three great grandsons; brother, Richard; and sister, Marjorie.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald; and sister, Jeanne.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Janice Hilkerbaumer as celebrant.  The family will receive friends following the service in Heritage Hall at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to First Presbyterian Church of Granville or other charity of choice.
