A funeral service celebrating the life of James E. Siegel will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Casey Wilson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

        A retired Systems Analyst with Motorist Mutual Insurance, Jim passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center in Newark. He was born in 1927 in Newark to the late Harry W. and Mary M. (Koontz) Siegel.

        A 1945 graduate of Newark High School, Jim furthered his education at The Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the Ohio Air National Guard serving at the Headquarters of the 121st Fighter Squadron.

        Jim was an active member of the Granville community serving as Scout Master for Troop #18, president of the Granville Public Library Board, and a 35 year member and chair of the Granville Tree and Landscape Commission. Additionally, he was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church serving in many capacities and as chairman of the board of trustees. He was a 50 year member of Newark Lodge #97 of the F. & A.M., Granville Order of the Eastern Star, and past president of the Buckeye Beetles VW Club.

        A kind, gentle, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jim was a talented and generous man. He enjoyed wood working and volunteering at The Works where he was instrumental in the restoration of the interurban car. Family and genealogy were important to Jim and he will be remembered for his wisdom and counsel.

        Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nancy; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Joe Demeter, Lesa and Jerry Miller, Lou Ann and Jim Roberts; grandchildren and their spouses, Mary and Tim Treptow, Bob and Jennifer Nearhoof, Matthew and Trish Demeter, Sarah Demeter, Jennifer and Jay Clark, Melissa Miller, Daniel Miller, Matthew and Alexandra Roberts, Andrew Roberts, and Embrey Roberts; great grandchildren, Emily and Kaitlyn Treptow, Nathan and Hannah Clark, Madison Nearhoof, and Desmond Demeter; sister, Mary Elizabeth Hupp; and many nieces and nephews.

        The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 P.M. in Shepherd Hall at the church where a masonic service will be conducted at 7 P.M..
